Primo Rogli (Jumbo-Visma) took first prize last year, followed by Enric Mas (Movistar) in second, and Australian Jack Haig (Bahrain Victorious) in third. Since Rogli and Haig were injured during the Tour de France, they might not be able to race in this year's Vuelta.
Both the Australian Giro d'Italia champion Jai Hindley (BORA-Hansgrohe) and the runner-up Richard Carapaz (INEOS Grenadiers) will compete in their final Grand Tours. There will also be Alejandro Valverde (Movistar) and Vincenzo Nibali (Astana).
